Abstract
Modernism is a period in the history of the West, which with its anthropological, ontological, and epistemological foundations has influenced all sciences, including human sciences, psychological theories, and counseling. Among these foundations, the foundations of epistemology with a focus on experience and rationalism in combination with pragmatism had consequences, among which we can mention the secularization of rationality, the meaningless of the world, the separation of knowledge from value and pragmatism. . Pragmatism, focusing on the practical side and practical usefulness of wisdom, led to the formation of the concept of intelligence, whose purpose is to adapt to environmental conditions. The result of this humanistic rationalism, relying on the practical dimension of reason, was replacing intelligence instead of rationality, which left a deep impact on the application of counseling and psychology. Among these influences, we can mention extreme technocracy and technicism in this field. Pragmatism and avoidance of reasoning (practical and theoretical reason connected to revelation or God-oriented Reason) led to the emptying of counseling orders from intellectual and divine support. The result of this was the unreality and relativism of ethical and prescriptive propositions (recommendational and prescriptive dos and don'ts), which is evident in the individualistic, hedonistic, and emotional recommendations of some counselors and psychologists to clients. Recommendations whose purpose is conformity with the majority, normalization of immoral and inhumane behaviors, coping with the existing situation, and finally suppressing the divine nature of the clients.
